Maternal Mental Health Substance Use Disorder Resource Library

Maternal mental health and substance use disorders (MMHSUD) are among the leading causes of pregnancy-related complications and maternal death in Texas.

Many pregnant and postpartum individuals face barriers to screening, treatment, and recovery support, especially in rural and underserved communities. Through a partnership between the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, the Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network of Texas (PeriPAN), and Be Well Texas, the MMHSUD initiative expands access to real-time psychiatric consultation, workforce training, and trauma-informed treatment and recovery services. By strengthening the perinatal workforce and connecting women to evidence-based care, this initiative aims to improve maternal outcomes and ensure that all pregnant and postpartum Texans have access to compassionate, integrated behavioral health support.
